inspiring 2 cellists

2 cellos - Stjepan Hauser & Luka Selic
This shot says it all! Check out these two inspiring cellists, aptly named '2cellos'. Saw them perform yesterday at an Elton John concert - they played with infectious energy & passion with such an obviously strong connection between them, a joy to watch. I am not surprised to discover that they are a growing phenomenen in their own right, after uploading a piece onto youtube playing 'Smooth Criminal' (Michael Jackson). Classically trained, Stjepan Hauser & Luka Selic are both from Croatia; (Luka also lived in Vienna for 4 years!), it's great to see such hard work & passion go far. Good luck guys - you're fantastic!

new Venice print

Jehane Boden Spiers - Venetian Dreams
Everyone's in love with Venice at the moment it seems. This framed box canvas print of my original textile embroidery piece 'Venetian Dreams' was commissioned at my Open House for the Brighton Festival recently. It's full of lots of detail with free-hand machine embroidered words and stitched image of the Rialto bridge. Client collected it today!

A huge well done & thank you to Diana Garnier for her incredibly warm hospitality & fundraising to make today's event so successful. We had a busy day despite the skies opening and free pilates being rained off. My canvas Brighton prints were popular, as were Mary Fellows' witty cufflinks. Rowena Gilbert's gorgeous scratch bowl was bought by Michelle @ Sassy Shoes. A great crowd - well done everyone for raising £1000 for Rockinghorse!

Images of Brighton University prize-winner Steph Iles' artwork for Anna's memorial award 2011. Steph's second year project within the 3-D Design & Craft BA (Hons) led her to create a series of flocked metal pieces. These images display a sensitive hand, delicate whilst still creating a strong visual.

Thanks to Lianne Jarret Associates for a prospective article in She magazine. Their request was for images of how the house looks when we are living in it as our home - took these shots this morning. Spot the purchases we made at our open house this year; a pink Made in England print by Mary Fellows for Alina's new bedroom and gorgeous ken eardley plates (Lukas chose the red one). 2011 Prize-Winner announced

Well done to Steph Iles for winning the Anna-Maria Desogus Memorial Award 2011. Steph's innovative use of flocked metal and strong visual won her the prize! Great news that the award will receive match funding taking the annual cash prize up to £280.00 and the winning student will also receive a commemorative plate (plates being made as we speak, hope they'll be ready for Saturday's prize-giving....!) Josh Bitelli was awarded 'Highly Recommended' for his highly experimental approach towards developing new materials, including combining wax & string.
