Jehane - photography shoot

Thanks to Gareth Iwan-Jones for sending me copies of all his shots from the photo shoot for SHE magazine last year, it's great to have as a memento! Here I am outside the Yellow House with my bird-head lady by Jane Muir & Sarah Jones prints. Also inside the house with my Framed prints, Sarah Jones' land-scape prints & Janine Partington enamels...oh! and some of my cushions have crept into the shots too...

there's more than one way to be a girl

First post for 2012! What better way to start a positive & happy new year than celebrating Pink Stinks 'There's more than one way to be a girl'. An award-winning campaign which "targets the products, media and marketing that prescribe heavily stereotyped and limiting roles to young girls. Pink Stinks believe that all children – girls and boys - are affected by the ‘pinkification’ of girlhood. Their aim is to challenge and reverse this growing trend, also promoting media literacy, self-esteem, positive body image and female role models for kids".

An important message for all of us, whether parent or uncle, retailer, consumer or designer. The images we create have a huge impact on the educational & emotional development of children and indeed, of all of our roles whether child or adult. Retail currently benefits hugely from the narrow classification of this increased 'non-choice' for each gender; anything which challenges this trend is refreshing, thought-provoking & necessary.
